Juan Geronimo and Juan Jaurez, two Mexican-born former Nick & Toni’s sous chefs, are stars in their own show now at this onetime diner, whipping up dishes from their native cuisine that are wowing locals and summer visitors alike. Melt-in-your-mouth tamales; apricot- and tamarind-glazed rotisserie duck with handmade corn tortillas; and pork barbacoa with tortillas, avocado sauce, onions, and cilantro are among the winners. Wash it all down with a smoke and embers margarita (mezcal, habanero bitters, lime juice, pineapple juice, agave).
